As the year comes to a close, I wanted to share some very good news that you may have missed.
An article in Scientific American, A Happy Life May not Be a Meaningful life, cited a study in which happiness was strongly associated with seeing life as easy, pleasant, and free from difficult or troubling events, good health, plenty of money and feeling well most of the time. However, what the researchers found was that none of these things correlated with a greater sense of meaning and purpose.
On September 25, 2014 India’s space craft “Mangalyaan”, successfully reached the orbit of Mars after a grueling ten month journey. On the same day the progressive media outlet NPR* radio ran a short five minute segment - "Science and Astrology comfortably co-exist in India".
Everything grows out of our thoughts, first in our consciousness then later in the world. This leads all eastern spiritual traditions to teach that karma can only penetrate to the level of our thoughts.
It was the last night of the spiritual retreat with my guru Amma (also known as the hugging saint). I had spent the last few days working hard serving Amma’s program where ever help was needed; washing dishes, serving food, loading equipment, decorating the temple and crowd control, so the thousands of people who came to the program could get their hug from Amma in a timely manner.

In 1995, my Rahu dasha ended and the week my Jupiter dasha started a series of unexpected events led me meet my guru, Amma, the hugging saint. Jupiter is called Guru in Sanskrit because any spiritual karma that is due in the horoscope awakens with more ease during the dasha periods of Jupiter, the planet that is the giver of divine grace, wisdom, and higher consciousness.
