It was the last night of the spiritual retreat with my guru Amma (also known as the hugging saint). I had spent the last few days working hard serving Amma’s program where ever help was needed; washing dishes, serving food, loading equipment, decorating the temple and crowd control, so the thousands of people who came to the program could get their hug from Amma in a timely manner.
Most old religions, including astrology, are based on Saturn’s teachings that the divine will give us whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of our consciousness.
As the term “Yogi and enters deeper into the English lexicon, I have come to accept that this word is often being used to describe someone who enjoys doing Asana Yoga a lot!! While, I welcome this exalted word into the English, I am concerned that if we embrace this revered ancient word with so little qualifications the true qualities of a Yogi, that are every soul’s higher aspirations, may also get lost in the process.
Over the last two decades, the ancient eastern Yogic view of the cosmos has had a renaissance in the hearts and minds of the modern world. Yoga and Ayurveda have had a phenomenal resurgence, as more and more people turn to them for their physical and spiritual wellbeing.
